A comprehensive guide to Shanghai's most recognizable landmark, featuring stunning observation decks and unique architectural design.
Standing at 468 meters, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower was once China's tallest building and remains one of Shanghai's most iconic landmarks. Located in Lujiazui, Pudong, it offers breathtaking views of the city from its multiple observation levels.
The tower's distinctive design features 11 spheres of varying sizes connected by three columns, creating a futuristic and elegant appearance. Its name comes from a Chinese poem describing pearls falling from heaven. The tower not only serves as a broadcasting station but also functions as a major tourist attraction with observation decks, restaurants, and exhibitions.
Start your visit at the Lower Sphere (90m), which features an exhibition hall and virtual reality experiences. Take the high-speed elevator to the Upper Sphere (263m) for panoramic views of Shanghai, including the Bund, Lujiazui skyline, and Huangpu River. Walk on the transparent glass floor for a thrilling perspective.
Continue to the Space Module (350m) for the highest observation point in the tower. Enjoy a meal at the Revolving Restaurant located at 267m, which completes a full rotation every 120 minutes. Don't miss the Shanghai History Museum on the first floor.
